Gamblers of the nu

Postby DADDY » Thu May 25, 2017 9:45 am

1. The Dream – Tashaki Miyaki
2. In Mind – Real Estate
3. Common as Light and Love Are Red Valleys of Blood – Sun Kil Moon (sorry bros)
4. Hot Thoughts - Spoon
5. Everyone Gets Exactly What They Want – Las Rosas
6. Heartworms - Shins
7. Anything Could Happen – Bash n Pop
8. Untouchable – The Cairo Gang
9. Last Place - Grandaddy
10. Semper Femina - Laura Marling

Nothing is written in stone at this point. This year has a lot of "good albums," but I don't think anything is GREAT. I'm also really digging

Oczy Mlody - FLIPS
Hang - Foxygen
Prisoner – Ryan Adams
Mental Illness – Amy Mann
Pure Comedy – Father John Misty
Whiteout Conditions – New pornos
Volume 1 - BNQT
This Old Dog – Mac DeMarco
Opposite Side of the World – Louis Schefano
Americana – Ray Davies
August By Cake – Guided By Voices
Winter Lives – Matt Pond PA
and the son volts.
I also like the ryan adam addendum much better than the album proper.
Gorillaz was a dissapointment

The year is young, and like the song goes, "anythings could happen." What say ye dear buddies?

Every year, I find it so difficult to bring my list down to 10.
Still 7 months to go.

1. Prophet, Chuck - Bobby Fuller Died For Your Sins (Still my favourite album of 2017.)

The next 7 in no order:

Stuart, Marty - Way Out West (Mike Campbell produces this spaghetti western)
Crowell, Rodney - Close Ties (The Houston Kid is back)
Oberst, Conor - Salutations (Groundhog Day goes electric)
Stapleton, Chris - From A Room: Volume 1 (Fake News - he's not country)
Waters, Roger - Is This The Life We Really Want? (The October visuals will Trump U2's)
Moreland, John - Big Bad Luv (Still trying to figure out the make and model)
Trower, Robin - Time And Emotion (72-year old - damn)

Albums yet to listen to:

Buckingham, Lindsey/Christine McVie - Lindsey Buckingham/Christine McVie
Deslondes, The - Hurry Home
Isbell, Jason - The Nashville Sound
National, The - Sleep Well Beast (liking the first single I've heard)

Contenders that might switcheroo with the ones at the top.

Combs, Andrew - Canyons of My Mind
Eitzel, Mark - Hey Mr Ferryman (this is an excellent album)
Jeffreys, Garland - 14 Steps To Harlem (this is an excellent album)
Leger, Jerry - Nonsense And Heartache
Mellencamp, John - Sad Clowns & Hillbillies (this is an excellent album)
Ryan, Matthew - Hustle Up Starlings (still need to absorb this)
Earle, Justin Townes - Kids In The Street
Oh Susanna - A Girl In Teen City
Son Volt - Notes of Blue
Never saw a woman look finer
I used to order just to watch her float across the floor - Neil Young

5. Aimee Mann, Mental Illness
6. Father John Misty, Pure Comedy
7. Hurray For The Riff Raff, The Navigator

Real Estate, Spoon, and Julie Byrne all decent and should be contenders come Gambler time
The Shins and Ryan Adams are only OK. If its a good music year, they should miss the coveted top 10 spot IMO
FJM is disappointing

Plenty more to investigate in this here thread, thanks

Is anyone into the new Perfume Genius? I keep hearing how great it is, but after a couple of spins I'm not sold. Granted, it may not be quite up my alley, but I liked a bit from his last album .
