I love the 97's and for all the reasons Sandusky listed...I like them because they are syrupy. Totally not a serious band and not to be taken seriously...Saturday morning vacuuming music. - Now if I met Rhett he would be in danger of a cock-punch for excessive douchebaggery but the band as a whole is great. They are the Bazooka Bubble gum of AltCountry....

Same. Also don't like them. And it's not just because Rhett Miller hazed the shit out of me.

Rhett looks a little jazzy, so I don't even want to know what the hazing involved.

l like the Old 97s. Not a die-hard fan, but got Too Far To Care, Satellite Rides, and the greatest hits.

Love "Barrier Reef" and "Nineteen" as songs.

Not sure why the Old 97s are such an offensive entity. Rhett isn't as prolific as Adams nor is he as high-brow as Tweedy, but I'd honestly rather listen to him than either of those two most days out of the week. The guy's totally pop and he doesn't seem pretentious about it. Whoever said that the Old 97s were more a powerpop band with alt.country leanings was pretty dead on. Wussy? Compared to certain things, sure. Compared to some of the newer "sensitive" indie releases I've heard, Rhett is virtually GG Allin. Of course, if you compare 'em to Slobberbone, they'll come up short because they aren't anything like Slobberbone and they were never trying to be.

That's my two cents though.

Plus I have no idea what frat boy music is supposed to be. Just sayin'..

I have got no problem with Stuart Random Miller. I think the Old 97's are a fine band. Catchy pop ditties with more hooks than my uncle Bob's lucky fishing hat...What's not to love? If you read some of the interviews regarding Rhett's solo outings . . . it was more of a pressure from the suits kind of thing. From everything I've ever heard . . . seems like a stand-up-kinda guy to me.

What, DADDY said. The hooks are just to much to walk away from for me.
