Jukebox of Steel

Continental motion certainty
The merciful wheels
Where the living are living on
Solvents and ashes

Time chain of loneliness
Half tone rebellions
Nomadic upturns and lights
The skeleton key turns the night

Antiheroes to follow to
Bar and string salvation
Throw the calendar away
Gonna find a jukebox of steel

A still life with a bottle
A newspaper and a glass
Carrot dangles and the dance goes on
The bitters circle the drain

Emancipate the commonplace
Ride high the relief roads
Of nightfall and enchanted ends
Revelry in borrowed clothes

Anti-heroes to follow to
Bar and string salvation
Throw the calendar away
Gonna find a jukebox of steel

My fave song on the album by an alt-country mile, but damn, if I have no idea wtf Jay is singing about!
"Tennessee, Tennessee, there ain't no place I'd rather be, baby won't you carry me, back to Tennessee"

I thought he already wrote that song...I believe it was called "Windfall".

So Bar and String salvation is like "cars, jars and guitars"? I can dig it!

me and peanut are ready to hit the park now that my SV tee has arrived! I'll listen to the new cd while walking the park with my new summer flops!
I have not heard the new SV, nor do I own a brand spanking new SV Tee but that there Peanut is one adorable pooch!
Actually, Peanut is the guy in the hat. Sandusky is an uber-intelligent dog that has learned to communicate with humans via internet forums. He was just an ordinary stray dog until back in the early 90's when he was sniffing around a dumpster behind a club where Uncle Tupelo was playing. His ears perked up when the band went into a blazing cover of a the Stooge's "I wanna be your dog". After the set Jay was sitting out back having a "smoke" when thd dog went up to him. Jay scratched him behind the ears and said, "You're a cool dog, I'll name you Sandusky and bestow upon you the power of cognitive thought". Years later Sandusky lives in Birmingham and takes in stray humans like Peanut.

as much as I love this record alas there are a few clunkers. I can't get my head around "Down To The Wire" and can't stand "Sultina". Other than that, it's all gold!
