Jay Farrar - Sebastopol

Postby Verbow » Thu Aug 21, 2014 11:13 am

If y'all haven't listened to this one in a while, pull it out and give it a spin. I forgot how great this one is - really love the sounds and songs on here.

This is my favorite Jay solo album. This is the one with Barstow right? That's a good song.

Yep to the abover. Jay was really on fire on this one. Also didn't realize that John Wurster and Matt Pence did the drumming on this album - good choices.

Have always loved this one! Was a change of direction and took me a bit off guard initially, but really grew to love it pretty quickly.

He pretty clearly put "The Soft Bulletin" on repeat and then did an album.

Yeah, Steve Drozd is all over that album. Smart. He knew who the genius in that band was.

^ You mean it isn't Wayne "hey everyone look at me, look at me all the time" Coyne?

Baby doll waxes affection all over the walls for this sliver in Jay-man's cannon. Maybe only the blooze dirge king crown tune reigns it all back in. Our French Bulldog Seraphim still slobbers less though.

I don't get to the Farrar site much - don't know if that Grifter dude still posts or not, but man was he a strange one.

Love "Voodoo Candle" and "Feed Kill Chain".

Same here. Quality album the whole way through. I remember still missing SV but not quite as much once I heard this great album.

I thought this album was pretty good. A few real neat songs on there. If someone cut away the fat from "Terroir Blues" (which would probably remove like half of the songs) I would probably like "Terroir Blues" better.

Jay's solo stuff is decent, but I can't say I've made an effort to listen to it for probably 7 or 8 years. I still spin the older Son Volt albums from time to time though.
