Really love all the details we get from Jay and co. when there's a new album on the way.

Love,

Unfortunately it sounds like we might have to wait until next year for a new Son Volt album. Maybe a new Gob Iron album in the future?

However, Notes Of Blue reflects the blues as it resides in the folk tradition, but heavily amplified.
Jay goes Black Keys!

Add some horns and you've got "This Note's For You."

That's a horrible album name and a lovely album cover. And I guess it's official now that Jay Farrar = Son Volt. I'm not wild about it. Dave Boquist was responsible for so much of their sound. And it's weird that Farrar has willingly retreated into guitar-strumming even though he's much more capable, but he's also done away with obvious musical partners who can expand his sound. Does he not realize that, if he's gonna be in 4-chord acoustic strumming mode, a D. Boquist or Mark Spencer is essential?

I'm relatively excited for this but I wish Jay had just retired the Son Volt name when he dropped the Boquists and Heidorn. He could have just gone with the Jay Farrar Band or something. This 2.0 "band" seems so far removed from the days of Trace, Straightaways, and Wide Swing Tremolo, I wonder why he wanted to keep the name.

^I'm guessing it helps sell more tickets/albums than "Jay Farrar."
