Special Olympics/Polar Bear Plunge

Post by Wordman »

Friends,

I have decided to "take the plunge" and jump into the Chesapeake Bay on January 30th in support of the Special Olympics. The way you raise money is by donating to my plunge. Here is the link. I know there has been some debate about the nuttiness of these sorts of enterprises, but hey, it's a good cause...if you can donate a 10er or two...thanks!

Hey Ray,

Polar Bear dips are a blast! I have done 5 or so in support of Make a Wish. The last one I did was a female dog because it was like 12 degrees out, but overall the experience is very cathartic/baptismal/etc.

Me and my buddies have a blast with it...we get dressed up in silly outfits and turn it into a party--it's a great excuse to start drinking at breakfast! A little whiskey in the ole coffee.

I plan on doing it again this year (Super Bowl Sunday)....Good luck, buddy.

Sounds refreshing! Hopefully they have a sauna you can run to.
The contribution phase is coming to an end.

Thanks! I see some of my ACT buddies have already put in some coin. You guys rock!!!

BTW, there was some concern expressed about "shrinkage", but as Billy Preston once wrote, "Nuthin' from nuthin' leaves nuthin'", so it won't be an issue... :D

sounds really cold and really fun. maybe you should keep the beard until after the plunge. could help keep the face warm....at least that's how you could sell it to the Mrs.

There is a tradition of doing the Polar Bear plunge into Lake Ontario on New Years Day. Sometimes they have to get the chainsaw out and cut the ice so that people can get into the water.

I had to laugh on New Years days when CNN was showing the brave citizens of Jacksonville, Florida, doing the polar bear plunge into the "freezing" ocean. Pansies.

You can usually pick out the Canadians, because they're swimming, but noone told them there was a polar bear dip! :D

Good on you Ray. Just remember, breathe BEFORE you jump in the water, because once you come up, you won't be breathing. Trust me.

Good stuff, Raymond. I'm gonna take a closer look later this weekend when I'm not shoveling snow.
