They have almost NONE. Danny Duffy got called up tonight to start his first game. Surprised to see him walk so many guys tonight when he had a 43K/7BB in Triple A. I'm sure nerves played a huge part in that. I'm going to predict he will be our ace by the end of the season though. Pretty sad when Bruce Chen is your current ace.
Forgot about Francoeur - he looks like he's been a good pick up.

It helps that New York and Tampa Bay didn't run away and hide early on. It also helps that all those east teams beat each other up. But mostly it helps when the pitching is solid, Gonzalez has 42 RBI's or something and Crawford is finally coming to life.
Of course I post this and they lose three straight and fall out of first.

I was there Saturday and it was electric. I still say trade Poo if you can convince him to forgo the no trade clause. Can't keep Carp and Poo without a major payroll attitude adjustment. Rasmus is tradable and has salary control too. Lot's of young teams doing well who could use that kick to get into the playoffs and this is in the NL Central so we can win during a natural disaster. I think Pujols probably resigned this weekend in future retrospect. I enjoy 2011 Albert who is of course finished.

There's going to be so much pressure on this kid. Gretzky's son drafted by Cubs. He chose baseball over football. Let's wait and see.

Clearly the Cubs forgot they are not a hockey team.

Yet another of the KC Royals super stud prospects made his debut tonight. Remember the name mike moustakas! He is likely to develop into the best 3rd baseman in the game for the next 10 years or so. I'm sure within the next 5 years or so he will be playing for the Yankees or Red Sox.

This is pretty much a no-brainer choice for those that have the option. Baseball, compared with football, offers much longer careers, bigger signing bonuses, far less bodily pain both during and after career, and a much longer life expectancy. Besides which, the owners are currently trying to fuck the NFL players in the ass right now, and even if they don't get all their ridiculous requests, the NFL players will almost certainly come out at least partial losers in the battle.

Truth.

Semi-related - how unbelievable is it that a league that made billions of dollars last years during the worst recession in American history (probably) is not going to be able to come to some agreement that gets the season started on time? How fucking stupid does everyone have to be that they can't work this shit out? NBA's probably going to have a strike shortened season, and that makes sense, because the NBA is losing money and the owners apparently need rules preventing them from giving players dumb contracts, because they can't just say, "No Hedo, I will not pay you $11m per year to suck at basketball."

Oh and Go Nats! Haha we fuckin' suck and this Harper kid seems like such a douche I might have to start rooting for the Orioles full time again if he gets called up.

In my 5+ years in DC, I've concluded that Os games are a million times more fun to attend than Nats games. That's even factoring out the fact that the Nats are a division "rival" of the Phils. I'd go see a sucky Os team suck every day and twice on Sunday before going to the Nats's whitebread ballpark. It's like somehow they got the "cookie cutter" concept of those older parks to apply to a retro park. And the fan presences speak for themselves. The Os have hung on to a small-but-strong fanbase. The Nats's hardcore fanbase consists of about 50 people, 4 of whom are the guys in those dead-president costumes. GO TEDDY!

Yeah I'm up in your neck of the woods now studying for the Bar and I've planned to see a couple of O's games and no Nats games, although I'm technically a Nats fan. Just not crazy about watching games in that ballpark. Camden Yards is a fucking great place to watch baseball. Good food, too.

DC buddies what's the deal with the Nats park? Is it fan culture or traffic around the park? I'm heading to NC soon and I think I may be heading to DC from there. Cubs are in town which could raise my jerkhole comments 67% and I can't miss that opportunity.

It's not that bad, it just doesn't feel special. Camden Yards is just great. The Nats park feels really generic. Traffic around the area is a total bastard but the trick is to get to the game early via Metro and you're fine. I've only been to day games there so I can't comment on the night stuff. I like watching BP when I can so getting to the game early is pretty important.

This. It's amazing that with so many good retro parks to steal concepts from, the Nats managed to build a boring park with no unique flourishes and notably little character. It's not a bad park and the sight lines are good. But it's remarkably meh. Camden Yards was a one-of-a-kind when built (maybe except for Jacobs), and it holds up really well. It was also built as a shrine to the game's longevity. In Camden, you feel like you're in a modern, comfortable 100-year-old park, if that makes sense.

Paulhead, let me know if you're in town. DS will buy you a beer.

Yes this is an excellent idea and I am very much up for it, all I need is for someone to tell me how I tell my wife I'm going to go out drinking with some dudes I met on the Internet. I was going to say I was going to go hiking on the Appalachian Trail or say I got hacked, but I'm not sure if she'd buy it.
