I think beasties like most rap is way over-rated but I wouldn't say I hate them. In case anyone wonders where the beasties got "Girls" from.

I hate most of the songs where Mick of the above is singing falsetto. Especially the disco-ish ones. Also, "Don't Stop" by Fleetwood Mac (or most anything by them).

John Fogerty has made lots of great music. 'Centerfield' is SHIT!!! And it's not the reason I hate the song, but unfortunately we get to hear the turdberg WAY too often.

'I'm Walking on Sunshine' by Katrina and Waves... holy shit that song makes me want to go all Tasmanian Devil on the world. There are plenty of others in that same vein that want to make me kill or be killed.

I've gotta agree on this one. How many movie trailers or commercials was it in during the 80s/90s? When I hear it now I just figure that whatever it is attributed to is terrible. I just imagine myself murdering several people when I hear it and it makes it funny.

Speaking of murdering people...that song was terrible until it had something of a second life in American Psycho (especially how it's used to transition from the line "I am simply not there.") I enjoy irony.

That's probably why it springs to mind. That film tends to permeate into my normal life.

For example:

Fat Hitler Kat used to have this fixation with banging on the bedroom door and meowing in order to wake us up in the morning. After all, we exist, and thus, we must devote all attention to him. Yelling at him didn't work. The spray bottle gimmick didn't work. There's not enough water in there to piss him off. My wife realized that a cup 1/4 filled with water, will do the trick. He stops and then feels really guilty about making us mad. He's secretly a glutton for punishment.

Problem is, after awhile, he would bang on the door, and then he could hear me get out of bed, so he'd run down the stairs. This goes on for awhile. Now he's really getting the jump on me, to where by the time I get out into the hallway, he's already at the bottom of the stairs. We have one of those hallways where it's open and overlooks the stairs going down.

Well, remember that scene in American Psycho where Patrick drops the chainsaw down the spiral staircase on that hooker as she's running away? One morning, I run out after the Kitler in my underpants and he's already turning the corner to go downstairs. The film flashed into my mind. So, with perfect timing, I dump the water over the hall railing, and he runs right underneath it and it goes all over his back. I even let out that celebratory laugh like in the movie.

Kitler never pulled that shit with me again.

I feel the same way about "Walking on Sunshine". :x

"Don't Worry, Be Happy" has to be the worst though doesn't it? I don't know. Maybe it was the overplay thing. I hated it from day one though.

Good call on McFerrin's shit of a song. That video with Robin Williams being played constantly was enough reason to hate VH1 back in the day (or The Box if you were poor).

Might not be as bad as "Tubthumping" or "Macarena" now that I think about it.

Literally anything by Jesse Malin but particularly his cover of "Bastards of Young" by The 'Mats. That rendition is so unbelievably bad I think Paul Westerberg should sue.

I actually don't think Tubthumping is bad. Just overplayed. I find a lot of songs we end up hating started as songs we quite liked on first listen. Not every song is built to be played in heavy rotation for 35 years.

Agreeance. Although I'm not on board with any kind of pro-tubthumping talk I do feel that there is a place for those catchy songs that seem to defy "good taste" This summer I have enjoyed the "Pumped Up Kicks" and the "Go Outside" and even a few tracks from the I'm From Barcelona crew. I can't imagine I'll be humming them next year though, but as for this summer, I have enjoyed those songs guilt free.
