Blaze,
-If everything would have worked out the way I had in mind, I'd have done the same as you. Right now, this is what I have to do.
Everything is just not sunshine and rainbows and asking why another person cannot be where you are at this moment. I find that insulting actually. I have friends who do nothing but smoke, develop apps, focus on drugs, their band, and all kinds of bullshit that I just don't mesh with and they're making very good money and are happy looking at and doing weird shit that has nearly killed me.
I also know very wealthy good ole boys who make a TON of money basically doing nothing but partying and part time running a vulture roofing business. These assholes have zero talent at anything and make their structure on the 'club'. I thought all that was over.
I know what I need to do and am softly reaching out to hear someone else say it. - let me help you: DO WHAT THE FUCK YOU KNOW NEEDS TO HAPPEN.
Can I get a woot?

Re: God
On the for real most days I am a theistic person but not a believer in any particular religion. Whether or not there's a heaven or any afterlife has zero impact on how I behave so I honestly don't worry about it.

Re: God
Lot of deep thoughts here. I've struggled with many of the same ones. If you want to trip out a little check out the Hubble Deep Field view: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hubble_Deep_Field It blows me away when you realize that each one of those dots and smears you see are galaxies. Then be sure you appreciate how small of a slice of the sky that is that the telescope was focused on. Then contrast that with the Pale Blue Dot photo: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pale_blue_dot It is a photo of the earth taken by the Voyager 1 spacecraft from about 3.7 billion miles away (give or take 37 feet...GPS wasn't as good in the 90's) which is still inside our solar system. You can barely make the Earth out in it, and it is but one planet around one star in one galaxy.blindlemon wrote:Based what we currently know, there are approximately 100 billion galaxies in the Universe. With 100 - 200 billion planets in just our galaxy, the sheer enormity just in terms of size and distance of this whole thing makes me think that there has to be some bigger thing than a human being on this little Earth in 2013 struggling with some computer application, or some other kind of being 100 million light years away just now learning that it can make fire or build a space vehicle a thousand times more advanced than what we've come up with in the past 60 years. None of these numbers matter, but to know that it is one huge ass, very very old place that just flat had to come from some thing- is something. I doubt that thing wears a robe and lives behind a golden gate, and I've struggled to call it God, in the terms that we should all bow down to the great creator, but I sure wish I could find something to help me believe in something. I guess that in itself should be enough, but I'd like to be able to believe in God like some of my friends. For my own sake, I've tried to force that to fit into the system and constraints of Biblical thinking, but it is hard.
I should have spent more time on this post.

Re: God
I'm weird about the whole thing. I can't say "there is a god" or "there isn't a god" without feeling kinda dirty about it. I suppose that makes me something of an agnostic. The universe is fucking vast and I don't propose to understand much of it.

Re: God
Yep. If there is a"god", who made him. If there isn't a god, where did all this stuff come from?

Re: God
Deism and a clockwork universe is about all I can accept at the most anymore. The bible is too much of a fairytale for me to swallow. Growing up strictly religious, it took much courage to finally admit that to myself. I expected to be turned to a pillar of salt.
