Found a Stroh's neon beer sign in my attic recently. I think I won it at a golf tourney in the early 90s. Is that brand still even around?

They say the greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist, but the second greatest trick was convincing people that Dos Equis isn't a garbage beer.
track11, a Dos Equis Amber is way better than the standard. Not sure I'd ever order it but it's not terrible. Never had Carta Blanca but wanted to try it after reading the story "Revenge" by Jim Harrison where the character is in Mexico and drinks that brand exclusively. But I hear it's not good. :?

Yeah pretty sure you can still get it in Detroit where it was originally brewed. A truly horrible beer. We used to buy it in college because it came in 30 packs. It was so bad you had to get it in Stroh's light because the regular Stroh's tasted too bad. It wasn't any worse than Pabst the reigning hipster beer. Pabst actually was about 10 times worse. I think they actually have made Pabst more palatable than it was 25 or so years ago.

I drank a lot of the Mexican beers (Carta Blanca, Tecate, Dos XX lager, etc) when I worked for a Mexican restaurant because those were the easiest to snag without anyone noticing. Don't care for any of them really - to me they all have a slightly metallic taste. No bueno.

Dos XX amber on tap - that isn't too bad. Not my first choice, but I wouldn't turn it down.

Anyone have any recommendations for a good Oktoberfest? My go-to is Spaten. But I'm willing to try others.

That one's my favorite as well.

I'm also all ears for some good Marzen suggestions.

Bob I have not tried the Brooklyn Oktoberfest, which is weird because my rule on buying beer is "just get whatever Brooklyn beer is available." The Pennant Ale is a big favorite in my house, though, anyway thanks for the rec.

Anyone tried the Paulaner Oktoberfest? Paulaner is usually pretty good and I saw it at Costco for cheap but didn't want to commit to buying 30 non-Spaten Oktoberfests.

The Spaten is very good and so is the Brooklyn one but my favorite is Hooker. Plus is comes with the added value of being able to state at the family dinner table that I am going drink a hooker to wash down my food.

Good idea Kizmiaz, per your recommendation I'm gonna buy a whole bunch of hookers this weekend and also pick up some of that beer you mentioned.

Anybody like the "Dales ales?" I like the ale in the blue can or the 'Mothers Yellow Pill" in the yellow can. When I was in Galveston this summer they had a local beer that was called "Sympathy for the lager" that had all these Stones overtones.

I like the Dale's Pale Ale. The Yella Pils is good too. I tried the Ol' Chub Scotch Ale last night and is pretty good. I have the Ten Fidy in the fridge waiting on me.
