Had my Gretsch remodeled.

Post by Max Power »

It was 1998. I bought a Gretsch Special2 (or the like) for $350 at Guitar Center in St Louis, MO. I loved it at the time. Played it a lot. Then when I moved to Iowa it sat in the basement. The basement is also my art studio. Any chunk of wood down there will eventually be painted. So, I painted over the 2-tone burst - first silver, then a light blue. Then I sanded all that off down to the 2-tone... mostly. It was a sack of poo at this stage. Pickups were always shit, but back when I got it, I just didnt realize it.
So, I recently took it my friend Darwin who owns 965 Guitars in the Iowa City area. He took care of me quite well.

Kent Armstrong pickups - not real expensive, but solid as hell. Kentron in the bridge and PAF at the neck.
Bigsby B5! Had to.
New pots, new toggle, Gretsch volumes and 1 tone knob for both pickups because of the placement of the B5.
Also new strap locks to replace the old one at the neck and the wood screw I had mounted at the rear because I didnt want to fix it proper.
Also, a set up.

Sounds like a $2000 guitar if not better. Just amazing. Would play this on any stage, anywhere.

I think that bad boy is worthy of its own guitar painting.

I might paint a small one... but probably keep my name off it. Just not worthy of my series. lol. Feel like a douche if I did that. My dad keeps hinting that he wants me to do a guitar painting of his 50's Gibson. Its a sweet guitar, but sorry pops.
