Gaslight Anthem - Cain's Ballroom, Tulsa October 3rd

Post by Blaze »

Why do I get the feeling there are gonna be a lot of little shits jumping around and crammed up by the front of the stage?

Pretty damn good show. The sound was excellent and the crowd was reasonable. Seemed to be a bit of a slightly older crowd for Gaslight. Against Me opened and there was a mosh pit and jumping around, but that cleared out once they left and so did most of the goobers. I was able to get right up to the guard rails after they left.

As far as Gaslight, they sounded great. They had an extra guitarist touring with them and he played a little bit of slide guitar on some of the songs and laid down some nice licks to some of their other songs. Brian's vocal were tight and able to hit those wailed out spots he has on records. The set list was heavy on stuff from their new album and my only complaint was that there wasn't a very big representation of '59 Sound or American Slang material. Also, maybe a bit too many ballads and slower songs when I was trying to get my rock on. Shit did go off the rails when they came out for the encore and opened up with '59 Sound, lots of people shoved up to the front and an errant crowd surfer kicked a lady in the head (she was fine), but that was the kind of thing I expected would be going on all night and it only happened for one song, so it was all good.

I guess the band had been selling out shows all tour and they didn't sell out this venue, so I hope that doesn't affect any future stops.

It always amazes me that mosh pits still exist in 2014. This isn't Woodstock 99, people!

Luckily I skipped out on the phase when Lucero drew a "moshing" crowd. When I saw them a couple weeks ago, I guess all of their former moshing fans were all growed up.
