Re: Replacements Tour
So strange that fights were breaking out at the DC Mats show. When I saw them last year it was clearly the 401K crowd who would hurt themselves trying to throw a punch. My buddy Jason was at the DC show too. I'll ask him for his impressions of it.

Yeah, that was the thing. I actually made a joke to my wife that I'd never been so confident about being able to kick everyone's ass at a show since the Belle and Sebastian concert we went to. There were a few old moldy gutter punks from back in the day but mostly it was middle aged, upper middle class dillweeds like myself. But I think like Blaze said I think there was some entitlement re the shoving and crowding. The one instance that cause me to leave my excellent spot were two middle aged dickheads shoving each other. The one guy kept pogoing and bumping into the other guy. Solution there is to move if it's bugging you. But he doesn't move, he keeps asking the guy to settle down. Solution there is to pogo more mildly or move to a more pogo friendly location in the very large club. Instead he pogos more obnoxiously and keeps leaning over and telling the guy, "FUCK YOU IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE REPLACEMENTS," which is a strange thing to yell at a guy who paid quite a bit of money and probably hired a damn sitter just to stand 30 feet away from Paul Westerberg. So of course they started shoving and the bouncer came by and I was like, "Yo you gotta get rid of that motherfucker," pointing to the pogoing guy - it's one thing to be kind of a pill, it's another thing to try and start shit which he was clearly doing - but the bouncer just warned them both and so I was like, "we're outta here," since it was clear that guy was going to start shit with somebody and I didn't want my wife to get knocked over or something.
Earlier in the evening, some tiny little skinhead man blasted through the crowd and shoved my wife, she punched him, and then he shoved me and I threw him to the ground. I was a little surprised the bouncer dudes didn't come over to me and that was actually mildly concerning as well. He just disappeared after that, which was a little disappointing because I was ready to rock his world. I couldn't tell if he was running away from someone or just on drugs but in any event it didn't help.
Those weren't the only incidents, and maybe the fact that my wife was there probably made me more sensitive than I would have been otherwise, but it was just not a great crowd. I'd be curious as to your friend's reaction.

Lame game. Hate that your show was tainted like that. Hard to get past that crap...Tuxedo T-shirt wrote:Yeah, that was the thing. Re: Replacements Tour
Finally talked to my friend who was at the DC show. He said he was up close by the stage and didn't see anything rowdy, other than the venue felt crowded and possibly oversold.Tuxedo T-shirt wrote:Yeah, that was the thing.
