Re: True Detective Season 2
How about the utterly unbelievable coincidence involving Ani's dad, Rick Springfield, and the Vinci mayor's family? Too much.

Re: True Detective Season 2
Was the big shootout in Season 1 at the motorcycle gang in the 4th episode too? It was very Michael Mann this time round. And I guess it was a way to kill of a few characters. RIP Dan Dority! I suppose it means the police dept is going to try shut down the whole case with all the dead civilians and MacAdams' character is getting smeared aswell
I agree with you guys though, it wasn't a great episode. I hope the whole thing hasn't peaked already with the end of episode 2

Re: True Detective Season 2
Yeah, 4th episode was the single shot of McConaughey in the projects shooting it out with everyone. This scene was good but couldn't beat that scene.

Yeah, that was awesome ..it was better than the actually finale of season 1Beldo wrote:Yeah, 4th episode was the single shot of McConaughey in the projects shooting it out with everyone. This scene was good but couldn't beat that scene.
What does everyone make of VV saying "everyone go inside" when he saw the explosion start? Maybe I'm reading too much into it but I think he expected it to happen.
I'm absolutely on board with the idea that like season 1, the case will be unofficially closed but Farrell, MacAdams & Kitsch will keep the investigation going anyway, likely working from an apartment with no furniture and a million photos/post-it notes stuck to the walls.

You know who should have played Frank? David "Yeaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh" Caruso, that's who.

I think someone like Javier Bardem would have been good.

Frank needs to be a mean guy trying to be nice and failing, but Vince Vaughn is a nice guy trying to be mean and failing.

I think VV is doing OK, the problem is some of the hokey lines he's getting. The casting has some logic as he's supposed to be a guy who is uncomfortable in his skin

VV is fine, guy trying to get out of the game and play it straight and because of awful luck is getting dragged back in.

Re: True Detective Season 2
The best scene he's had is when he "came upon" that guy getting beat up by his lackeys. That worked. Everything else has been a struggle, and I get absolutely no chemistry between him and ginger Freddie Mercury.

Re: True Detective Season 2
Yeah, that was perfect Vaughn. He's best when he's being smarmy and fucking with people. Pat you on the back with one hand while stabbing you in the side with the other. He can use his size to be really menacing even when he's smiling. Instead he has to be all dour and pissed off. I think he was supposed to be uncomfortable in the first few eps, and that worked more or less, but now he's supposed to be getting back into his menacing ways and it's hard to buy.nacho wrote:The best scene he's had is when he "came upon" that guy getting beat up by his lackeys. Re: True Detective Season 2
This season reminds me of season 2 of American Horror Story in that there's a million things going on, yet none of it is very interesting. Just a boring, confusing mess that has grown to the point where I don't even care to try and keep up anymore. It's sad that a totally unrealistic shoot out has been the highlight so far. People standing in the open shooting at a sniper, but never getting hit. God I hate that kinda stuff. Oh and basically everybody gets blown away except the main characters. Seems like a fancy made for TV flick. I didn't expect much, but this ridiculous.

Re: True Detective Season 2
Taney's right, we need more storylines.
Ray: ex-wife raped, gives birth to kid that may not be his and now wants sole custody; indebted to Frank for info passed on a dozen years ago and now can't break away from him; he's an alcoholic and so is his dad; has a shitty mustache and wears a bolo tie
Frank: wife/baby drama; avocado trees are fucked; business partner murdered after being entrusted with millions of dollars for investments; lackey named Stan murdered; main lackey thinks he's Roger Moore
Ani: pseudo-boyfriend buttplay problem has now turned into an IA investigation; slept with partner once and now he's now sprung on her; sister is an online bean flicker; dad is nucking futs guru guy who 1) had an association with a missing person case she's handling, 2) knew the shrink that was treating the Vinci mayor's ex-wife during the time she died, and 3) also buddied around with Vinci mayor's dad back in the day
Paul: closeted gay; creepy mom; former soldier buddy wants to bone him, watch b-ball, and make waffles for him; girlfriend he has to take Viagra for is now preggers so obviously getting married to her is the most logical course

I find it interesting and entertaining. It's not Madmen good, but still pretty darn entertaining.
