It's pathetic that it's taken me this long to see my favorite band live, but I finally saw them last night. It was at a festival - Jubilee Jam in Jackson, MS, so just an hour+ set, but a really good one. They squeezed in a lot of songs for such a short set. Ben's voice was in great shape which for him means appropriately raspy. He lit up a smoke and cracked a Budweiser just before the first song and I told my wife "that's how alt-country guys get their voices ready." The crowd was a mix of diehards, freaks and frat kids just ready for Shinedown (the next band), so it wasn't the best atmosphere, but Lucero still played their asses off. Ben took requests and was very friendly with the crowd. All in all, a good first experience seeing them live, but now I want to see them play for 2 hours in some sweaty club so I can get the real experience.
The setlist (I know they opened with "West" but I don't recall the closer or the song order due to my bad memory + all the Mary Jane in the air during Shinedown - who actually put on a pretty good show):
That Much Further West
Watch It Burn
Sixteen
Nobody’s Darlings
Last Night In Town
My Best Girl
Banks of the Arkansas
All Sewn Up
It Gets the Worst at Night
I Can Get Us Out of Here Tonight
I Don’t Wanna Be the One
1979
Kiss the Bottle
Tonight Ain’t Gonna Be Good
Tears Don’t Matter Much
Nights Like These
Chain Link Fence
(I think there was one other slow song, but I don't remember which)
