I like the Gin Blossoms' first album.

Doug Hopkins was an amazingly talented songwriter and could write circles around most of the other "hot" pop writers at the time. Like TVZ Doug had a great fondness for the bottle, which led his bandmates to replace him. He committed suicide soon thereafter. He is missed.
I respectfully disagree about the remaining Gin Blossoms being relegated to the County Fair circuit. Jesse Valenzuela is a well-respected working songwriter now based in Los Angeles. Several of the other guys are heavily involved in local recording projects, as well as continuing to tour as the Blossoms, though on a much more modest scale.

My wife has a copy of their first one that is signed by the band. The band played Augustana College where she was attending.. I guess her sorority arranged or promoted the thing.. she also has a Toad The Wet Sprocket signed CD.
Sometimes just for fun I will forge a signature in a book or something.. its fun when you forget you did it and stumble on it later... then for a very quick second you second guess and wonder. then it hits you and you spend the night sobbing in to a bowl of ice cream.

Nortwoods - I try to see Clyne & the Peacemakers whenever they appear in town and have seen several of their shows in Puerto Penasco which are basically big parties. I also see several of them and their families around town regularly; it seems their favorite restaurant is currently my favorite bar. Roger's also in the tequila business now with two of the club owners in Mexico where they play. I'm sorry to report that the product is rather mediocre and overpriced.
I believe the band member you're thinking of is Scotty Johnson, who joined the Peacemakers for awhile, but returned to the Blossoms a couple of years ago. Tempe and, in general. most Valley bands of all genres have fairly incestous relationships, with members working in multiple bands or switching bands from time to time. Steve Larson of the Peacemakers, for example, was one of the founding members of Dead Hot Worshop.
