Right, they don't have sex til they're married. Perfect excuse not to sleep around or have a serious girlfriend.

I can't believe anyone would believe he was sincerely just duped here. The balloon boy guy was more believable than this.

I'm amazed that Deadspin broke this story. How did ESPN, Sports Illustrated, CBS, etc. NOT fact check? Bleak day for sports journalism.
Between this, Lance Armstrong, and no one getting elected to the baseball HOF, it's like the start of sports Hunger Games. Who will go down next?

I don't see how he could be in on it; its extremely embarrassing for him. There must be easier ways for a sports star to concoct a sob story about a gf with an illness...eh, pay a hooker to sit in a wheelchair with a drip for a few days a week?!

Yeah, dude was in on it. He posted his fake girlfriend's non existent sister's fake twitter profile and told people to follow her cause she was "one of the realest people I know."

Bizarre for sure. It's not logical for him to be in on it, nor to being duped. Neither scenario makes sense.

Ironically, this will probably do more to bring awareness to catfish "relationships" than the movie Catfish did.

Yes, it's perfectly normal to never see the person what with Skype etc. Than when she dies he doesn't try to get to the love of his life's funeral or look for an obituary? Also his Dad messed up and said they met her.

^ classic!
This sounds plausible in terms of him being in on it:
"He lied, but the media blew it up," the unnamed player told Pepper. This Fighting Irish player said he believed that Te'o could have initially been fooled into starting a relationship with someone who did not exist, but suggested that the Heisman finalist stuck with the story of his tragic relationship because he received so much media attention following Notre Dame's win over Michigan State, which came on the heels of the actual death of his grandmother and the fake death of Kekua.
