Also have love for these songs off of "Okemah":

Bandages and Scars
Afterglow 61
Atmosphere
6 String Belief
Gramophone
Chaos Stream

The rest are fine, just kind of unmemorable.

Why no love for "Bandages and Scars"? The guitars and riff are killer. Is it the line about the ozone? I bet "Jet Pilot" gives you crazy head and colors your perception to the rest of the album.

I liked Bandages and Scares at first, but the stop and start tempo bugs me. And I'm tired of the over done romance of Woody Guthrie. Look Woody is cool we get it it.

Jet Pilot is just an embarrassing song. Has nothing to do with W. I don't care for him either. I don't like Jays voice on a lot of this album.

What about the Highway 61 song, son? Kind of rocks enough for you and less of the weird Farrar voice.

I'm still working through The Search again. Never gave it much of a shake the first time around and never got the extra tracks. Do you have any love for "Adrenaline and Heresy"?

The bonus songs are the best part of the search.

Jay's vocal delivery on "Hwy 61" pains my ears. Same goes for "Jet Pilot". Songs would have been 100x better if he sang in his normal range. I'm still down with the sentiments behind "Jet Pilot" just not the sound. About The Search, top 5: Highways & Cigarettes, Methamphetamine, Adrenaline & Heresy, Phosphate Skin, Underground Dream.

Adrenaline and heresy is his best song since anything on terroir blues

Adrenaline is great, but its to expremintal sounding and doesn't sound like Son Volt.

Good, I thought I was crazy liking Adrenaline and Heresy. Love it when those drums kick in.

To me Afterglow 61 has less of the falsetto Jay and good guitars. Try it again Shane. Sounds like his usual Son Volt range...maybe as low as it has been in later period.

As for his two proper solo records, I rate Sebastopol as very good and Terroir as very very good. Actually, Terroir is a gorgeous album. I wish he had someone else produce it, because it could have been cut down to a tighter group of songs. But the songwriting is top notch.

As for SV2, I never listen to Okemah anymore. The only songs that have endured for me are Ipecac (believe it or not), Who, and Bandages. The trouble with Bandages is the clunky lyrics. Afterglow 61 is fine but boring.

The Search is a big jump forward but a very mixed bag in its own right. Likes: Circadian, Highways, Adrenaline (agree w/ Chogs on how good this is - one of the most emotionally laden songs Farrar's written), Phosphate, Carnival Blues (This is a top 5 SV song for me), L Train, and (sometimes) Satellite.

ACD is by far the most consistent album. My main knock on it is that it's too same-y. Jukebox is such a welcome change of pace, but then the album ends.
