To me "It Still Moves" is their best album, with "At Dawn" on a close 2'nd.

I don't hate the new one though....there are a couple of really sweet tunes on this album...but It won't make my top 10....not even my top 20. But still....

Wow you prefer Evil Urges to Z? This new one I'm having some problems with. I love a couple of tracks but there's a lot of crazy stuff on this one. The vocals are freaking me out a bit too. Sounds to me like he's been listening to a lot of Prince.
Yeah, Z just kind of bored me. Thought it was too short and at least 3 of the songs were filler. This one at least keeps it interesting. I know people might not agree with me, and yeah, they do wear their influences on their sleeves, but like I said, it's more like MMJ's version of a Ween album to me, and when I think of it like that, it's great.
And Lloyd, I like It Still Moves a lot, the songs are great, but in terms of them progressing as a band, it was sort of stuck in neutral and didn't quite live up to the promise of At Dawn for me. Still good though, this is all relative...any MMJ is good to my hearing ears.

Just because I like lists, here's how I'd rank them:

The Tennessee Fire
At Dawn
Chocolate and Ice
It Still Moves
Z
Evil Urges

As it turns out, that's totally in the order they were released. Huh - I can't think of any other artist I would rank that way...

It Still Moves
Z

OK...this album has grown on me, big time. Lyrically there are some serious duds, "Highly Suspicious" and "Librarian," but I can hardly take either of them seriously, so they just strike me as funny rather than awful. "Evil Urges" I can't keep out of my head. "I'm Amazed" is just awesome. I'm gonna keep listenin to this one...

Almost all of the new songs are sweet live. Mack posted this after the Houston show.

Man - this album is just a conundrum. I can't listen to it without laughing at parts, singing along with others and wondering wtf through much of it. I'm Amazed is about as good as any song I've heard this year. Highly Suspicious is about as bad as any song I've heard since REO Speedwagon. SEC Walking sounds absolutely moronic to me, but for some reason I still kind of like it. And as the album progresses, I'm reminded of the rock they can obviously still bring. I'm glad I have it, but like Beldo, I don't really care to hear another one like this. Hopefully their music continues to evolve...or regress. As someone who was pretty critical of the reverb....I sort of miss it.

"I'm Amazed" is as good as any song I've heard this year. I haven't made my decision on the album yet, but a lot of it is growing on me. That said, it will never approach the joy I got from It Still Moves.
