which songs are doing it for you besides aluminum park and im amazed?
i like the album as a whole. it flows for me moreso than anything else this year. i dig the guitar tones, and the backing vocals are way more prominent and unique than on previous albums. really love the 50s, 60s, and 70s melodies and string flourishes that appear all throughout. plays like a great mix tape filtered through JJ's head. and "Two Halves" and "Aluminum Park" might be my 2 favorite songs for the year.

i dunno, it just really works for me. been on holiday the last week and this is all i've wanted to listen to, and it just keeps getting better for me. not gonna try to explain "Highly Suspicious" but even that's starting to work for me when i play the whole thing through and not skip around. just a complete album for me. go figure.

I agree that this one of the best of the year. Not their best, but still a pretty damn good album. The thing that holds it back for me is the middle of the album. Just a little too light for me on some of those. Otherwise I like the step they've taken. I hope they go somewhere different from this, but we all know they will. This is a band that keeps on melding and changing. They won't make another album like "At Dawn" (which is an amazing album) but that's fine as long as they still make great, interesting music. Don't understand the brown thoughts on this album.

I agree that some of the lyrics can be a little cheesy, especially in some of the forementioned middle tracks, but lyrics have never been Jim James strength. His strength is the music and his voice and I thinking he keeps pushing himself further in those areas.
