oh man I hope this is Rory, I'm ordering her most recent album on monday, I think it's already been out a few months. Can't remember what it's called though.

Bo

As much as I love Rory Block, this is Ottawa native Sue Foley. She lived in the Austin, Texas since 1990 before moving back to Canada and settling in Toronto a few years ago.

"Two Trains" is off her sixth album, 2000's "Love Comin' Down" and was produced by Colin Linden (Blackie and the Rodeo Kings).

She's great to see live .... she's got a great voice and can really play.

Bo ...

The album you are talking about is "From the Dust" which was released last February. I haven't picked it up either but I probably will next week.

Okee then .... No Skydiggers fans out there. I'll leave the song up for another week to see if there might be at least another fan out there. Oh yeah ... that's my thumbs up. Hehe.

Click here to listen to "Slow Burning Fire"

You must have heard of The Cash Brothers? Andrew and Peter Cash? Well Peter Cash was the principal songwriter for The Skydiggers. The Skydiggers are still around but it looks like Peter is concentrating more and collaborating more with his brother Andrew.

Last week's ACT Pick was from a band that was rarely talked about on the old site and has yet to be mentioned on this site. Three songs from "Farewell to the Fainthearted" album were sent to me by Michelle from Australia (can't remember her username) from the old board. I was really impressed with this band and then contacted someone from their web page and had a CD sent to me from Australia.

"Farewell to the Fainthearted" was released in Australia in 2004 and then released earlier this year in the U.S., Europe and Japan.

If you have yet to check out this band, I strongly recommend that you do.

Very appropriate lyrics - I like them. I'm not wild about the vocals, although I could probably grow to like them over time. No idea once again. Kind of sounds like a mix between Bruce Springsteen, Dave Alvin and Robert Earl Keen. Not crazy about this track, but it's decent enough. I give it confident thumb's sidways.

Knobtwister was on the right track ....

On the back of the Springsteen connection (Bruce produced "American Babylon", played on several tracks and wrote two songs for the album), Joe Gruschecky has never received the accolades or attention of the Boss. "Dark and Bloody Ground" was co-written with Springsteen. This is a really good album and is a must for all of you die-hard Springsteen fans.

This week's song should be up shortly.

Well, OJ, I'm not sure anyone else is listening to these - but I still am. However, I haven't known one artist. I think that's why I like the feature. Maybe I'm just stoopid.

This is one is great - big thumbs up. Really stripped down and sweet, I like this unknown song a lot.

Glad you like this one Dan. I'll put up another song later in the night. I'm pretty sure that a few other ACTers are checking this feature. It's a way of introducing an artist and getting people to talk about his or her music. The artist in question is none other than Paul Kelly from Australia. I was introduced to Kelly's music about 6 years ago and see him every time he's in Toronto. He's currently featured on the homepage.

If I thought this feature was stupid .... I would remove it. Gotta keep this place innarestin' Eh!

Paul Kelly is back with a new release titled "Foggy Highway". The album (2 CDs) was released last May in Australia and just released here in North America last week. It's a great collection of new songs, some reworked Kelly classics and covers of bluegrass standards. This great musician from Down Under is occasionally talked about on here ... just not enough. He's as good as they come when it comes to songwriting. Trust me.

Here's one great Canadian band that doesn't get enough attention. It tours Canada, the U.S. and Europe and still no one ever talks about them on here. I'm not sure on how many cared to listen to this great cover ... Oh well ....
