This could go in the photography thread, but it's more about property rights. A few days ago I found out a photographer in Georgia is stealing other photographers' photos (8 other photographers counted so far), including my own. He had a photo of mine up on the homepage of his website, as if it was one of his own. I threatened him with legal action. He kinda sorta complied, but still has an image of mine (probably others' as well) residing in directories of his website-- just not that easily viewable by the public, but still viewable- for example by doing Google searches, etc.

He sent me the most bs email response back. I've been patient and he still hasn't completely removed all stolen content, so I just contacted him again stating that he's not fixing the situation fast enough and threatened to resume legal action, if it's not fully remedied in the next 24 hours.

Good times. This actually happens a LOT to photographers and usually after a swift public humiliation, their website(s) are often taken down by host providers, etc. I'm sure sometimes it does end up in court as well. Great business model!

Anyway, his initial email to me is so laughable, I thought I'd share it with you here-
"Brian,

Thank you for bringing this matter to my attention as I have contacted my multi-media associates to address this concern and it will be remedied throughout the week.

Not to labor long on your concern, I agree and am somewhat flustered, but I am the co-owner and therefore bear the blunt. To that end, it is not necessary for you to gesture in this manner as I have already made it clear what I expect sir. I have been assured that any images that were used for website marketing that is not related to any of my suppliers or blog associates will be removed.

Thanking you in advance"

Yeah, I don't know- somehow this photo ended up in my email signature a couple years ago and I can't figure out how to remove it. I was just trying to make a pink heart background as my default email view. Didn't work right. A little help please!

I know to you southern white boys all black people look the same, but that's not Obama.

Got two more emails from this "photographer." BTW- his company name is Jazzyshots, but I call him Jizzyshots.

Recent email #1
We don't know what you're looking at as you peer through Jazzyshots directories, but your threats are of little concern as we hold the copyright to every image that is up there or had been given permission to use such images during earlier stages of the company promo several years ago. I contacted our web designer and asked about any images used that was not supplied by us and was assured that they this matter would be handled. Upon arriving back in town yesterday, I personally went through each folder to verify which belonged to myself, my partner or one of the aides. I am satisfied that he has completed the task I asked him and I have been reassured that he would be more careful.

So before you decide to escalate your actions/threats we expect you to be sure of your actions as they will be in error and we will have the right to defend any such false claims. If an image of specific is in question we will be willing to satisfy your claim as courtesy, but we will not continue this dialogue beyond that request.

In addition, there is no violation of any laws, and/or copyrights to any image that sits in our directories that are not on public display and directly violated upon by tagging the image as Jazzyshots. All of our images are clearly tagged and there was/is no such tagging on any ad images or images used by use belonging to one of our suppliers or bloggers.

In the end, I must express that your impression of us and the attacks placed upon us was really over the top when any concerns could have been expressed in the manner that you are communicating now.

Thanking you in advance, but at this stage if you feel you need to proceed with other actions to satisfy yourself we cannot do anything about that and we will not remove any of our images or the images of our suppliers/bloggers from any of our sites.

Thanking you in advance,

Charlie
Recent email #2 several minutes after the abover (Entitled 'My Compliments')
Beyond our not so pleasing dialogues and not to impress upon our future dialogue, I must commend you on your great images. You can actually feel the emotions in some.

Done
I find the whole thing despicable, but at the same time absolutely hilarious. I just sent him a link from his own website with my photo on it verifying that he does indeed own the copyright or was given permission to use the image. He best not be coming back saying yes or I'm going to munch his ass for lunch. Not literally.

Lolz. I think I could read an entire book of this guy's writings and thoroughly enjoy it. His latest reply (the last line is particularly golden).
Gotcha and thanks. Viewing my site, I don't see it, but Greg did confirm it's in our directory and various other stuff it was used for regarding blogging. No problem, he did say it was oversight and he's on it. Personally, I don't have a problem with this concern and this method of communication as I consider this legitimate.

Any other concerns, please advise.

Thanks

BTW; we have instructed that regardless of any good intention...don't place anything that we have not personally instructed. ugh :-(.

Are we all watching Bearcam? I love this. Way better than Eaglecam and maybe even better than Puppycam.

Thanks for the heads up on Bear Cam, abover.

So, I bought a new shirt. Something I could wear to less formal photoshoots that wasn't too hot. So it's just a black t-shirt, but they only had it as a v-neck and it does fit a little bit tighter than my typical t-shirts. I don't think I've ever worn a v-neck shirt, especially a black one that hugs my bodily curves. I put it on this afternoon before a photoshoot, looked in the mirror and thought "Oh no! This shirt makes me look kind of gay!" I went in front of my wife and asked, "Does this shirt make me look gay?" Without hesitation she firmly said, "Yes!" Grrrreat... now I look gay.

Is this how it starts?

There's no logo like this guy has, but in case you needed a little visual in helping you figure out if I'm turning a little bit gay-

When did we all decide to start saying "derp" all the time? I feel like I missed out and now it's too late to start.
