I grabbed some of the setlist I wasn't clear on from the Son Volt board. Blistering set. Lot's of rock. The Notes of Blue songs really come through live. Bonus was hearing Still Be Around because he never plays that.

Nice. I'd love to have heard the solo on What Goes On.

Same set list in Boston last night, with two exceptions. First they played "Graveyard Shift" after Windfall. Nice surprise! For the second encore they played "Happy" by the Rolling Stones instead of the Velvet Underground cover. Jay said that they had never played it before. It kicked ass!
The audience was mostly >50 year old white men. I felt young! Maybe 20% chicks. Big sing-alongs on "Tear Stained Eye," "Windfall" and "Route." They rearranged "The Picture" so instead of horns there were killer piano, guitar, and harmonic solos. They did "Still be Around" really slowly, with some pedal steel and electric guitar in the background. Not sure it worked.
It was great to see Mark Spencer - I was just to the left of him the entire night. Dude is a talented musician!
Jay is such a weirdo. I get that he doesn't like talking, but it would also be nice if he didn't look like he was in the middle of a colonoscopy the entire time he was on stage. Have some fun, dude! It wouldn't kill you to smile once in a while.
