We walked in the door and Ira was selling shirts. Sweet! Scored a shirt, grabbed a Sharpie from the sales guy and asked Ira if he’d sign my shirt.
“Sure” he said, motioning me over.
I mention to him that I’d seen the band about 18 years ago at Tacoland in San Antonio.
“I remember that show! The power kept going out on us.” He said.
“Yeah, it didn’t look like you guys were having much fun that night.”
“No, no! We had a blast, playing all covers.”
“Yes!”
Hard to believe he could remember a show from nearly 20 years ago right off the bat.
The wifey snapped a coupla shots with Ira and me and we were on our way. I was grinning like a little kid the rest of the night!
YLT started out a “bit meditatively”, testing the waters, warming up. Ira mentioned that they had such a good time in Houston the last time that they were going to do something special.
“We are going to play for a long time tonight, whether you like it or not.” [Cheers]
They played most of the songs from the wonderful new album, “Popular Songs”, tons of old rockin’ classics and several see-how-quiet-we-can-play numbers that tested some people's patience. It was funny really, reminded me of some Phish shows where most of the song was drowned out by people “shhhhhhhhsing” others. But the band took it in stride. YLT play for themselves. If a group of people wants to listen, all the better.
Played for two hours, took a couple of requests (one a Kinks tune… don’t know the name) 3 encores.
Stellar show. See ‘em.
Tacoland Talk.

Gotta love the warm camera phone glow...

Ira has a memory like a steel trap AND can sign his name upside down. Scary.
