i actually like the noise...i think its all in the concept of death...in theologians, someone died (a ghost is born)...less than you think, the part with words, is like a funeral...those 12 minutes of noise after the words are done is like the mind continuing to, i wouldn't say work, but just exist...
"a fist so clear and climbing
punches a whole in the sky"
thats the mind going up to heaven

I'm going away and you will look for me
Where I'm going you cannot come
No one's ever gonna take my life from me
I lay it down, A GHOST IS BORN

Yeah, I'm thinking of putting out an ep like this. I recorded myself cutting the lawn over the summer, about 15 minutes. The liner notes will describe how it's about existential angst (the lawn being 'existential', the mower being the 'angst'). Anyone says otherwise and I'll say 'it's art man'.kickingtelevision wrote:those 12 minutes of noise after the words are done is like the mind continuing to, i wouldn't say work, but just exist...

I already did this. You can buy all my albums in packs of 50 or 100 and you can buy them at Best Buy, Target or your other favorite retailer. Check it out I'm really proud. Give a copy to your friends. Its not really music. Its just the sound of existence.Sandusky wrote:Yeah, I'm thinking of putting out an ep like this. During the recording of the Grateful Deads "Anthem of the Sun", Bob Wier wanted to record heavey air and light air and then mix them in stereo. The engineed got up, and left. That was the last they ever saw of that guy and a long hard and expensive trip began for Warner Bros Records....

kickingtv,
While I'm far from being a Tweedy apologist, I admire you hearing what they were trying to accomplish with less than you think. I have an alternate theory that "songs" like Less Than You Think are deliberate reactions against their growing fan base, like Tweedy saying, "All right, you like Heavy Metal Drummer? How about THIS?!" 15 minutes of ambient noise is nothing if not challenging.
Although I don't like the album, I wish I could have been a fly on the wall in the home of every suburban yuppie who came home from Borders, put the album in their stereo, and then went, "Wow, this sounds weird... not at all like their other album I bought... Why would a spider be doing taxes?"
And frankly I'd rather listen to 15 minutes of noise done well than a half-baked, amateurish rock song with terrible lyrics like "I'm A Wheel."

thanks a lot...thats another thing that popped in my head (your theory)...but i think this album has a recurring theme of death...im in total agreement that im a wheel has stupid lyrics, but it is a fun stupid rock song
