No way! It was developed to be a long-lasting sealant for air ducts - lemme check good ol' Wikipedia...

Huh - I guess we're both right!
Duct tape is a strong, fabric-based, multi-purpose adhesive tape, usually silver or black in color, although many other colors, including transparent, are also available, and is usually 1.88 inches wide. It was originally developed during World War II in 1942 as a waterproof sealing tape for ammunition casings. Permacel, then a division of Johnson & Johnson, used a rubber-based adhesive to help the tape resist water and a fabric backing to facilitate ripping. Because of these properties, it was also used to quickly repair military equipment, including jeeps, guns, and aircraft.

After the war, the housing industry boomed and people started using duct tape for many other purposes. The name "duct tape" came from its use on heating and air conditioning ducts, a purpose for which it, ironically, has been deemed ineffective by the state of California and by building codes in most other places in the U.S. (which means professionals are restricted from using it in systems they install, but do-it-yourselfers are not). However, metallized and aluminum tapes used by professionals are still often called "duct tapes".

okay so it didn't repair ducks, but it was called duck tape first

"The original use was to keep moisture out of the ammunition cases. Because it was waterproof, people referred to the tape as "Duck Tape." Also, the tape was made using cotton duck - similar to what was used in their cloth medical tapes. Military personnel quickly discovered that the tape was very versatile and used it to fix their guns, jeeps, aircraft, etc. After the war, the tape was used in the booming housing industry to connect heating and air conditioning duct work together.
Soon, the color was changed from Army green to silver to match the ductwork and people started to refer to duck tape as "Duct Tape." Things changed during the 1970s, when the partners at Manco, Inc. placed rolls of duct tape in shrink wrap, making it easier for retailers to stack the sticky rolls. Different grades and colors of duct tape weren´t far behind. Soon, duct tape became the most versatile tool in the household."

I just saw Iron's rant about how I "misinterpreted" this quote...

As usual, he talks about how he never gets personal while leveling his bile-gun in my direction.

He says he's not coming by any more, and that's a loss.

As for the attack, no prob, he's not even good at it...

But if I were to even stick to the thesis that he suggests as far as parenting.

Yeah, there are bad parents around. Always have been.

But I would submit that the good parents I know are far better parents then the one's from 50 years ago...and I was there!

My dad was my hero, and a great man. But I am a better father, and he said so.

I talk to my kids.

I tell my son I love him so much, he probably wishes I'd fuck off.

My dad had communication issues, and NEVER said the sentence "I love you". He was not engaged, and many, many men of my generation would say the same.

Rosa Parks lies in state tonight.

Even though Iron contends his rather blanket statement doesn't refer to such things, and he will say I took out of context (the typical defense of something said that is indefensible)...Well, the inference is obvious...I think Rosa would have agreed the world has improved, at least a little

Ray,
I have good news...That same kid that wishes you'd fuck off will change his mind about that. Good parenting is one of those few things in life where doing a good job actually does pay off!

He will be thirty, walking down the street one day and it will hit him like a pallet of Duck(t) Tape falling from above - "Thank god for my parents"

Its true...Ray. He may tell you to leave him alone for a good portion of his life. Someday though....when he has kids that he's raising wonderfully....he'll know that its because of his wonderful parents. What may be a game of smother/back off through his teen years will probably lead to a very close-knit family that gets together all the time....and has nice family parties.

As far as children are concerned...there can never be enough prayers and "I love you's".
