Someone enlighten me. Is there an old 'Nam post?Tuxedo T-shirt wrote:Maybe she scared him so bad that he started thinking he was POW in Viet Nam.TANEYTOWN wrote:Heltsy scared the shit out of Ray.
Same here ... this Vietnam thing is something that anyone on here would remember. I've never heard of this either.

See, I've always wondered "what are they up to RIGHT NOW"? Whoever it may be. People take shits, go on dates, pay bills, have drinks with other interesting people, bathe babies, milk goats, fish, do woodwork, etc. I'm sitting here on this keyboard, wonder what he's up to? RickV asked the question, and I do know the real answer. So I posted it.
I do have Billy's cell and email, and thought it would be funny to find out what Billy is doing RIGHT NOW. It was a random connection as posted in truth in that forum- we're both woodworker types. I don't really have any bridges to burn with Billy Mercer and thought it might be fun for the board to get Taney back into doing what entertains us the most- being solid Taney, not this new, non seedy, non-florist nor Snapple Salesman Taney.
This place started out solid has devolved into a source of entertainment, and I like that! I like hearing about what y'all are doing. I always check in, but only post in fits and starts. OJ knows. Whores and bastards have turned my once warm heart cold and black.
Oh, and try 1997, whoever posted "Since 2005". My real name is Jon Smith. I was not in the military, but I do like to Catfish.
And what is it that I know?

OJ, this was discussed pretty thoroughly in a thread last year I'm sure someone could pull up but here's the recap Noodle posted on the previous page

Well, the PM Rick V sent me, containing a terse Wordman PM to him, dated 2/6/06, does indeed appear to provide prove of Ray's claim to have served in Vietnambla. It looks legitimate, overall - and contains reference to serving his country in Vietnam, having been awarded a Purple Heart (and offering to show it as proof), and even to having been tortured (being blindfolded w/holes burned in his legs, to the extent of not being able to wear shorts now). Very surprising, to say the least.
Re: the Vietnam timeline, the facts are that with the signing of the Paris peace accords, all US military forces were out of Vietnam by January 31, 1973 - and by that point those forces only consisted of air and naval power. The very last ground combat units had been pulled out by August of '72. With 'Vietnamization', which was the process (started by Nixon) of handing over responsibility for conducting the war to the South Vietnamese via withdrawals/advisory duties/training/materiels, the US presence had peaked in mid-1969 (w/I think 540,000 Americans in-country), so that the last major engagements by US ground troops were in mid- to late-1970 - after that, our ground presence was limited only to leadership/training of the South Vietnamese and chopper/air support. So the S Viets began conducting their war w/only the most basic support by early 1971, but were completely on their own to sink or swim after January of '73,until Saigon fell at the end of April of '75. With the birthdate given (11/17/55), Ray could only have been, tops, 16yo when shipped off to the Nam. It's unlikely as it is, and it doesn't jive with the timeline either. Wonder what the story is...???
Didn't expect this thread to turn in this uber-geeky and rather, uh, shady/dubious direction, but such is the nature of message boards...and teh ACTs I had just hoped to put in a good word for an ACTer I've developed a certain amount of respect for - and to 'know' in an obviously limited way. Now I wonder. Maybe Ray will grace us with his presence and put all this speculation and weirdness to rest? -Sam

Ok, so this was a PM. I don't recall Ray ever posting about serving in Vietnam. I do remember Rusty talking about this and kind of calculating Ray's age to figure out if he could have been old enough to be in Vietnam.

Yes, I can suspend accounts. And you want me to suspend who's account? and why? The only account I have suspended for like 2 weeks was Taney's account (can't remember what had happened at the time).

You were just lingering on the .com of altcountrytab? I came onboard in the later stages. Damn, this .ca place will be 8 years old in June. How many years did the .com go for? Does anyone know the start and end date?

Squeaky Fromme over there seems to think 1997, but I think it started later than that.Gas OJ wrote:How many years did the .com go for? Does anyone know the start and end date?
