Saw Skyfall. MEH. I loved Casino Royale. I preferred Quantum of Solace to this. Very mediocre. Really disappointed.

The "planning to get caught" thing is so played out. Pretty meh action sequences. Nothing like the awesome airplane scene in Casino Royale. I did enjoy the Home Alone sequence with Albert Finney and Javier Bardem is great in everything. I liked the new Q.

But, mostly, meh.

Real enjoyed Side Effects. I can see a lot of people here not liking it but I dug the hell out of it.

Had to watch Beast of the southern wild for a film class I'm taking. Good movie, but very messed up.

Watching "Skyfall" right now. Not as funny as I expected, but pretty good.

Watched an old Japanese war film called "Fires On the Plain". It was a slow watch, but pretty kick ass. It covers the last months of the Japanese occupation of the Phillipines, obviously from the Japanese point of view. There's a lot of black humor (the opening scene is a commanding officer telling a private with TB to go back to the field hospital and, if they don't take him because they're overcrowded, he should kill himself with a grenade as to not burden anyone) and a lot of darkness. I'd say it's even the Japanese equavalent to something like "Platoon" or even "Apocalypse Now". Japanese atrocities in the Phillipines aren't really elaborated on, but they're hinted at (every Filipino character in the movie obviously hates the Japanese invaders) and that's good enough for me. Some have decried this film for eschewing politics, but I think it's an excellent character study and a sturdy entry in the "war is hell" genre.

I thought this was a great movie, there is not much to the plot, but the imagery alone is worth it.

This. (although I wasn't so much disappointed as I was irked by the appeal to the bond sentimentalists)

 Looks too French to me. What's the big deal about it? Is the Kylie Minogue scene good?

Sky Fall is fun just like the new Die Hard. They are what they are, sit back and enjoy them.
